The Pac-Man put Hatton down twice in the first round and as a result the Hitman simply never got into his stride. In the first round, the Filipino exuded speed, strength, timing and power in the attack that was unleashed on Hatton and the left hook that finished the game was so quick that Hatton didn’t even see it coming. The power behind the punch was so forceful that Hatton was knocked out before he even hit the canvas and as a result it took him three minutes to come round.

While Pacquiao celebrated (somewhat distastefully), Hatton’s medical team worked on bringing him back to consciousness while his partner, Jennifer Dooley, very quickly became delirious with the inevitable fear that there may have been long lasting damage. It was with relief that England’s best boxing hope picked himself up and walked out of the ring although further disappointment did ensue when he chose to not give any TV interviews.

Reports suggest that he was taken straight to hospital for a brain scan and after being given the all clear he returned to his hotel for a well earned rest. All seemed well in the Hatton camp the following day as Ricky held a pool party for his disappointed fans although it is still unclear whether he will retire from professional boxing. One thing is for sure, Manny Pacquiao has earned the right to call himself the pound for pound best fighter in the world with his next bout looking as though it will be against the man who beat Hatton last March, Floyd Mayweather Junior which is sure to bring out the paypal betting punters in droves.
