The Mitsubishi Shogun Tingle Creek Chase is held during, The William Hill Tingle Creek Meeting and it is a two day horseracing event that is held at Sandown at the beginning of December every year. The main event of this two day event is the Mitsubishi Shogun Tingle Creek Chase and this race is a Group One jumps race, which means that it is one of the most prestigious races of the horse racing jumps events season. The Mitsubishi Shogun Tingle Creek Chase is run over a distance of two miles and the name of this prestigious horse race was changed from The Sandown Pattern Chase in 1979, in honour of the legendary racehorse Tingle Creek, who was trained by Tom Jones, and this great horse took part in this event on twelve separate occasions, Six of which were in consecutive years. Tingle Creek won three of these races and came in second in the other three races. Tingle Creek sadly died in 1996, aged 30 and until this date he returned annually to Sandown to appear in front of the crowds! Mitsubishi first began to sponsor the Tingle Creek Chase in 1991, and it has since become known as The Mitsubishi Shogun Tingle Creek Chase.
