Ricky Hatton will prepare for his next fight against Paulie Malignaggi in November without long term trainer Billy Graham in his corner.
The Denton based coach is retiring from boxing at the end of this week after attending to corner duties for journeyman fighter Ojay Abrahams on Friday at a low-key event in Watford. His decision to quit comes amidst rumours that he was sacked by ‘the Hitman’ but all he would confirm today is that it is through injury he would have to pack it in.

Graham, known as ‘the preacher’, has been suffering with hand injuries for some time and often needed pain killing injections before sparring with his fighters. He is one of the most hands on trainers in the business but it seems that approach may have cut short his career.
The pair will split after 11 years together in which Billy took Ricky to the top of the boxing world. It’s not all been plain sailing though both were visibly shaken by Hatton’s loss to Floyd Mayweather last December and as recent as last month Ricky’s brother Matthew sacked Graham as his coach.
With Ricky on holiday in Spain, where he will also call in to Tenerife for a special ‘evening with Ricky Hatton’ event, it was left to his father and business manager Ray to pay tribute to his former coach giving Graham the credit of turning his son into ‘the fighter he is today’.
Lee Beard will take over as a temporary replacement until a permanent successor can be found.
